Hi people!

I am now proud to announce the release of PolyBoost 4.0 for 3ds max! Creative tools to speed up any 3ds max artists workflow. A lot of work and testing has gone into this new release and it can be considered almost a complete rewrite.

Almost all parts of PolyBoost have now been converted to c++ using the 3ds max SDK. This means a lot for the speed and efficiency of the tools. They are now just as fast a native max tools would be! Generally the tools can now handle very polygon dense models without any performance issues.

The upgrade is free for exisiting users.

Here is a video showing some of the new features in version 4.0:

http://www.cmlcreative.com/Videos/PolyBoost4_video.avi (http://www.cmlcreative.com/Videos/PolyBoost4_video.avi)

New features in version 4.0:

Symmetry Tools
Tools for making models symmetrical based on the symmetry of a picked model. Great for working with morphtargets. Available is also Flip symmetry and copy/paste vertex positions between models.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/Gifs/symmetry.gif

Texture Wrap
Create a texture map that wraps an input texture around complex organic geometry without any seams and at uniform texture scale across the surface. Great as a starting point of a new texture.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/texturewrap.jpg

Cavity Map
Create a greyscale image displaying how concave or convex the surface is.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/cavity.jpg

Density Map
Create a greyscale image displaying how dense the surface is relative to the rest of the surface. Based on vertex distance.

Dust Map
Create a greyscale image displaying how much the surface is pointing in the world z direction.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/dust.jpg

SubSurface Map
Create a greyscale image displaying an estimate of the thickness of the object.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/subsurface.jpg

SurfaceSelect
Select concave or convex areas of a model, like cavities or outward pointing areas.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/Gifs/surfaceselect.gif

SymmetrySelect
Select subobjects in the mirror axis of a symmetrical model.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/Gifs/symsel.gif

UV Space
Space uv edgeloops or uv vertices in the Unwrap UVW modifier to make distances between vertices even.
http://www.polyboost.com/Images/Gifs/uvspace.gif

StepLoop
Select subobject loop between two selected subobjects.

PolyDraw offset
PolyDraw now has an offset option to offset the created surface from the picked object to draw on or the grid.

and more...

Note that the new version is only available for 3ds max 9 and higher(32 and 64 bit).

Visit the website for more info: www.polyboost.com (http://www.polyboost.com)

I will be very interested in any feedback you have.

cheers,

Keyboard shortcuts for undo(Ctrl+z), redo(Ctrl+a), Toggle edged faces(F4) and toggle shading(F3) are now available while a PolyDraw
tool or PolyShift is active.

All move tools in PolyDraw are now constricted to the surface if a surface is used to draw on, which means you can not accidentally project verts outside the model.

Except for the Draw section tools in PolyDraw, all selection and modeling tools now have Edit Poly modifier support.
Seriously.. I LOVE YOU.

Heh - just read this after I turned off my main Max machine...

Superb seems an understatement.

Hey, thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you're liking it!

AJ - I'm feeling the love man.:D Those were some of the things that users have been requesting. I tried to add as much such things as possible, small things but very important for general workflow.

Wow, this is very cool.
May i ask if the PB licence's transferable to other machines aswell (licence portability?). I remember a thread a while ago people were asking for this.
Thanks!

Awesome!

Does Polyboost constrict newly created verts to the surface when doing operations such as connect? I don't think that it did that in the older version, and you would have to move them in order for them to "snap" to the surface.

Really liked the use of the high density model.

Hi SamSed, thanks, there is no such functionality for it but generally it is not a problem. A mail to support will solve any such issues.

Hi Baothebuff, no it still works the same as before for the Connect tool. I will consider adding that though, would make sense.

Could you please make version for Maya ?

How backwards compatible it's with older versions of max?
(just found out:PolyBoost will work in 3ds max versions 5 - 9 and 2008, great!)

Have you ever considered standalone version ?

Plugin for some other 3D package ?

Thanks

Normally I'm not the huggin' type of guy, but now I could really hug someone. It may take some time before I can/will use it again, but this tool has saved my *** more then once.

Keep developing !!

A very cool update, but now my Max 8 license is pretty much unsupported from now on because of the new sdk's. Have you considered resetting the license keys so people with older licenses can reregister with a version of max with a newer SDK?

Hi Als, there are currently no plans for versions of PolyBoost for any other 3d package sorry.

Hi Arcanox, thanks, if you are using 3ds max 8 you can still use version 3.0 of PolyBoost. When you upgrade to a newer version of 3ds max you will be able to also upgrade PolyBoost to that version.

Well, that's the shame.
Maybe you could get together with guys from draster, and make
polyboost/nex for maya/max? (it rimes!) :scream:
I know, I'm just dreamin...
But just I'd like to add, polyboost is inspiration for how things should work.
Simple, powerfull and creative!

Since nothing for maya or standalone, we still have 3ds max v 5, and I wonder if it is possible to use polyboost 4 with it or not?
If not which version of polyboost we could?
I don't mind trying if you are not sure...
Do you have some discounts for older versions ?

Thanks

SamSed - Great, thank you!:)

bisenberger - Yeah I saw that too, very cool indeed. Thanks to whoever put it in there.

Thanks for the nice words!
PolyBoost 4.0 will only work for 3ds max 9 and higher but version 3.0 is available for 3ds max 5. No discount available sorry, everything in the purchasing process is the same for both versions. The only diffrence is that you download the version 3 package instead of 4.

cheers!

WOW, I am rally considering buying a license for this 3ds must have tool set. But there might be a problem with my copy of 3dsmax 9. Everytime I tried to install PB4, there's no request code displayed in the blank, but an "undefined". Without a request code, how can I get my serial no? Any clue?

Hi Avatarye, thanks for the interest! If the requestnumber is undefined that likely means that you have no c:\ drive on your system. Send an email to admin@polyboost.com and let me know what your main harddrive is called and I'll put together a file for you.

edit: btw, I'm working on a fix for this since it should be automatic.

I need my product activation page reset in the user area so I can past my pb4 reg number and get my serial number.
Also how do you undo a Polyshift operation?

Rivendale
02-07-2008, 02:46 PM
Hi Airflow,

About your license, that should not be a problem but it is better that you send a mail to admin@polyboost.com (http://forums.cgsociety.org/admin@polyboost.com) about that.

In version 4 Ctrl+z should work to undo a PolyShift operation. In version 3 you will however need to use the undo button in the main toolbar of 3ds max while the tool is active.
