View Full Version : WIP - Fixing Dinner
Cinema1954 04-28-2003, 11:34 AM A render of my kitchen. Lighting is still pretty basic, and I know it's too clean, but anyone have any other suggestions?

bump on the tiles (on the wall) and on the "tabletop" is too pronounced.
Reflection on the cupboard is a bit weird, but perhaps this is the kind of material you had in mind.
Could it be the cupboard doors have no beveling? I think they should be a bit beveled.
Nice WIP :-)
B.T.W.: if is this is a real stove/furnace, then it's pretty dangerous: you have to reach all the way to the back to turn it on or off. Not safe. I am also missing some extra buttons. Or perhaps I'm just not familiar with this interface.

Hi Chuck, the glow on that burner is fantastic. It's a little thing but it's really cool. I think that the bump on the countertops is a bit to much. You keep a seriously clean kitchen there. -- dano

Ya, this needs some wear and tear! Break out the filth! Water stains, finger prints, scratches, etc... Check out http://www.dvgarage.com
I'm having a Fight Club flashback! But then again, the stove would have to be gas burning. ;)
Nice work so far!
sweet my only crit is that the floor/carpet bump is too noticable.
also the front of the stove looks a little blank this would be where the oven controls go usually.
nice pic :)

My oven looks almost exaclty like this. Oven controls are in the back.
Great detail. Smooth out the counter bump is all I can say.

Thanks to all for your observations! As just about everyone said there was too much bump on the countertop, I've reduced it significantly.
There was a bevel on the cabinet doors, but I've increased it.
And yes, that's really how my oven is laid out: controls in the back, big blank panel at the front. I guess since it's electric, they figured it was okay to have to reach across.
Dan... thanks; the burners are a dark textured mat, and the one that's on has a black-to-red Bhodinut fresnel in the luminance channel.
I've added a little grunge in the creases of the stove, as well as a few other items. This render uses soft shadows instead of area shadows like the original; I'll wait until it's really finished to do another area shadow render (4 hours instead of 15 minutes).
Here's the new full version:

This new version looks really good. Like the grunge. But what happened to the clock hands?

I didn't even notice that the clock hands were gone... I think that's because of the soft shadow (I know I didn't do anything to them!). They should come back when I do the final render.

Very nice render. The only thing that bothers me is the reflection on the fridge. It seems way too much. And of course more grunge--always more grunge. :)
