Hi all,
I write mel scripts with scite (http://www.google.es/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scintilla.org%2FSciTE.html&ei=cnScR_LLK4qewgHv4ZXQBw&usg=AFQjCNG4srWDDpWlC6sbq17S7saoiRazrg&sig2=aQZbcG52CRih3aC4HCGyXw) in linux, but copy and paste the sctips to maya scrtip editor is so tedious... I know mapy (http://highend3d.com/downloads/tools/syntax_scripting/mapy-5054.html) but I'm in linux and mapy is for windows.

Anyone knows with what editor I can work to connect it with maya? I usually use Scite, but I don't mind use any other inside linux/xwindows (no terminal based like "vi", "nano", etc.)

Thanks :)

Use JEdit (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/using_tools_scripts/Configuring-jEdit-with-Maya-319.html)
Works fine on linux...

I like Cutter (http://www.fundza.com), it can interface with Maya. And it's great for writing shaders. Just read the About Page (http://www.fundza.com/cutter/about/index.html).

I tried cutter, but I didn't like the UI too much :S

color me ignorant, but wouldn't it just be easier to make a shelf button that sources and/or executes your script, then you just save you script using whatever editor you wish, then push said button?

I'm not a linux at all, I'm assuming it's much like in windows (asides from the path differences)

source "C:\\yourscript.mel";
yourscript;

That's a pretty good idea, but for me the real benefit of something like JEdit is that while you're still in your script editor you can execute the code in Maya.

Granted you have to leave your script editor at some point (grin) but when you're trying to get your script to work correctly, it's great being able to watch Maya run in the background as you type.

Yeah of course, but we jEdit you can even execute and send portion of code, have instant access of the doc etc.
