beautiful piece Najib, I always liked your sense ...

I don't have much experience about abstract designing, but I thing the front legs of the creature needs better pose, also the background is a bit uncomfartable for me ... don't know what it should be, but try a studio location ...

Good luck on that competition my dear, I will wait for the winners' announcement ... with you -insha Allah- with them ^_^

Good luck again :)

I'll describe my technique after a while.
@Darius1989:
Thank you.I'm not sure if the competition rules permit to do so. If this is not violate the rules then it will be my pleasure to give you render as a gift.

Thank you all

Because I've science nature I'll describe all techniques I know to do similar affect. There are several ways to achieve similar affect. I’ll speak in 3ds max jargon but it is applicable to any other 3d package:
1- Using displace maps and alpha maps to give the surface artreis look. But this is 2d affect even it is displaced because the volume of the body will be hollow space. This technique is similar to Meats Meier's Wire technique which described here:
http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tutorials/3d__and__animation/the_wire_technique
2- Using 3ds max pflow with particle flow toolbox and maxscript. This method is described here in detail:
http://www.cgarena.com/freestuff/tutorials/max/pflow_splines/index.html
3- Modeling the structure manually. This will take a lot of time and will not give accurate result due to the nested structures and mesh density. IMHO it not practical solution because the digital art has different spirit.
4- Using automated solutions like guruware ivy 3ds max plugin:
http://guruware.at/main/index.html
This will produce very heavy geometry and will not give the correct result until you edit the result and do some workarounds. I've used this method here with tweaking several parts and modifying them + some workarounds until I get the desired look. I hope to write a tutorial explaining this technique and my tips about it.
5- Benefiting from the existing tools like selecting some edges and converting them to shapes (splines) then modifying the result by tweaking some parts. Using slice modifier to cut some slices can be good also.
You can use the lattice modifier.
6- Also I've tried another technique depends on scattering some random boxes over the surface of the body and connecting them with splines using Neil Blevins' wireBundler maxscript. His objectdroper script and scatter command in max can help you to position bunch of objects easily over the surface:
http://www.neilblevins.com/soulburnscripts/soulburnscripts.htm
As you can see "All roads lead to Rome" :) and there is no specific preferred method . You can combine some methods from the above or create your own technique , there is still room for creative thinking to juggle. Myself I’ve used technique #4 you can combine it with other solution to give proper result.
I hope this will help and my apologies for my poor English.
