I'm having a big problem here. I get a little long in explaining but please stick with me.

I have been using Maya 7 for quite some time and had no problem with it what so ever. Now I'm using Maya 8.5 and problems are arising. First problem I had is with a scene I was putting Maya Hair on a character. When it came to going into component mode and trimming some of the hair follicles (to style it) it wouldn't let me. I selected the hair and went to hair-display-start curve then it made the curves dissappear-all that remained was the follicle buds on the hair cap.

Okay so after that problem I decided I will just make the hair in a separate scene, style it, and import it into the other scene. It ended up letting me go to component mode and all that jazz. But after a while I set the dynamics and settings of the hair and then all of a sudden when I go to playback the hair in the timeline it would go to frame two then stop-like it was chugging (even though the playback showed it was playing). Everytime I have to end up force quitting the application.

Also when I go to render out what the hair looks like at the bottom it shows my percentage of paint fx rendering and it stops at 75 percent and then nothing. I could leave my computer for like an hour and nothing would happen. Then once again I'm left force quitting the program. Even after I restart my computer and importing the scene into another fresh maya scene.

The hair fx I'm doing isn't too much for the application or my computer. Like I said before I've used Maya 7 and have done much more complicated hair dynamics without a problem. Please someone shed some light on this. I'm to the point of pulling out all my hair. Also I have to use Maya 8.5 since my syflex works in it as well as the rig. Please someone save the day here. I'm up for trying anything!!!

I had EXACTLY same problem with rigid body simulation...
I have no idea either what's going on...
Are you using 8.5 sp1?

I think maya Hair just breaks alot, I have had so many issue with it. All I can say is do what I do, save, save and save multiple files. Plus I find that if a scene with hair breaks all I have to do is import it into a new maya scene usually work, usually.

Yea as far as I've been using Maya Hair I have made sure to keep plenty of saved files. Always a good thing to do.

So far I'm creating the Hair in Maya 7 and I'm going to import that into 8.5. Hopefully no bugs will show up after. Here's crossing my fingers. If anyone has any suggestions on how to still rectify it please let me know.

If you have maintanance, that's "debuged" version...
sp means service pack
