Hi there,
I have just been playing around with the ultimapper feature in xsi and it seems to be working pretty well, I am just having a few issues using the maps. It seems that the normal map I have made affects the specular (like a bump map) but the reflection seems to ignore it. Is there a way to have the reflection affected by the bumpyness of the normal map?

Not to sure about what I am doing wrong, but I have to say I get scared every time I have to use a bump map in xsi.

Any help would be great
Pete

Plug the Normal Node into the Material node, not to the Phong Node... although you named the 2 Nodes exactly the same... dont, it might get confusing later on.

The Material Node is the last one.

Yeay, thanks!
One thing though, what is the difference with a material bump slot?

Ahh crap I spoke too soon, I have anothe question. How do I control how strong the bump is?

Hey thanks, that is a handy thread, it ,makes sense too. http://www.peterleary.net/forumfiles/2008-01-24_230254.jpg

I have a new problem now though, notice how the bump map is only working in the very middle, It seems as though the diffuse texture is accepting the texture wrapping (or tiling) but the bump map is only doing one instance.
Any idea's?
Bump maps I tells ya

Is the Normal Map also Tiling like you made the Difuse texture to Tile? If not, add an Image Node between the Normal Map image and the Normal Map None, like you have in the Difuse and then adjust the tilling in there.

I am tiling the mapping in the actual uv's by choosing wrap in u and v.
I'd prefer to do it this way so I don't have to tile each component individually but it just isn't working.

I am at a loss with this one...

I think that's just how you "preview" a tile when doing UV layout- as far as I know it has no effect on renders. You need to look in the UV setting for the image nodes. There you'll find a wealth of options.
