View Full Version : Snow Beast for HL2 - Feedback Please

I have been crusing these forums for quite some time now and the amount of talent and knowledge is amazing. Because of this I would love to get some feedback on a model I'm doing for a Half Life 2 mod called Subvertus. This is the zbrush model I'll be using for the normal map.
A little info:
It's a beast that is front arm/leg driven and I imagine it moving much like a gorilla. It's anatomy is a combination of a lion, gorilla, and a gazelle of sorts. The front paws will be equip with claws, which I didn't bring into zbrush, and the mouth is filled with long sharp teeth, also absent.
Any feedback/critique would be wonderful!

nice one!, anatomy looks really solid (but then anatomy knowledge is by no means the best)
I actually like the fact that he has no teeth.. :) maybe putting some basic molars in there that are semi-rotten and not very agressive would work... there is something very disturbing about it not having massive teeth... almost like "look I have these massive arms to beat the living daylight out of you.... and once I have I am going to suck the flesh from your bones" lol
looking forward to seeing how this turns out

Looks just like one of the doom3 monsters, sort of like a dog. Looking good though.

The muscles on his forelegs need some work. They're a bit blobby and undefined at the moment. Also remember that a muscle consists of a muscle belly and a tendon, not just a single mass.
Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This is my first project in ZBrush so it's great to hear that you like it.
@JacoH - I struggled to see what was wrong with the forearms, but I think I know what I need to do, thank you!

I've been pretty busy with other stuff, but in my free time I've been able to rework the hair a little bit and add teeth and gums. I went for a combination of fangs, and rotted molars. Sort of a mix of my original plan and a great suggestion. Some feedback would be great! Thanks.

Looking cool, and will definately require a custom skeleton when it gets to the rigging stage. I'll be really interested to see your progress when you get it in game (I'm really hoping your plan is to go from concept to finished, animated and ingame).
I've been having many, many problems getting an animated character into HL2 properly so if you can get past the areas I've been stumped by, I most definately want to pick your brain.
As for the model itself, it's looking pretty cool, maybe you might want to exaggerate the ribcage from the back, like a greyhound? It does look very similar to the Pinky demon in Doom 3, so I hope you don't get offended by the comparison because I do think you'll be hearing it frequently.
