hey i have a question about making dust particles that float in the air...like in an attic....because thats what im doing(making an attic scene). i have to light and texture an attic scene for class and im almost done. i have volumetric lighting and photons and all this great stuff. its just missing the touch of neat dust particles floating around. i tried messing wiht it for a while and i couldnt get the stupid things to look right. and ive never used them before so i have no idea what im doing. max help files can do so much.

does anyone know of a good tut to get this great effect? or do you know yourself?

also i am using one light that comes into the window of the attic. using photon maps isnt it true you can light up the whole attic like in real life? because no matter what settings i use it seems like it stays really dark and i have to use an omni light to make up for it and i know that is wrong:( at first i thought it was the bounces which i had at 1. i set it to 2 but still it was dark and nothing changed...just a longer render time. just thought i would whine about that too and see if anyone could think of something im missing. thanks guys sorry for the long post.

You might have to turn on logaritmic exposure control in the enviroment dialog. That would make it brighter. But you could also just turn up the multiplier/candelas on the light to make it stronger.

The Dust: HAve never done that, but maybe the blizzard particle systen could do that. With a lot of tweaking you could have rally slow dust floating around using motors or similar forces.

pay special attention to what Johnny Scott says. Slight modifications of that will work.
