View Full Version : afterburn integration with fumefx question
surfrider67 01-22-2008, 11:38 PM Is the following set-up possible?: Putting a colume of FumeFX fire/smoke through a ring of afterburn puffs. (Running max 9/ AB 3.2c/ FFX 1.0a)
Thanks in advance

If i understand correctly, no. Afteburn does not actually contain geometry, therefore fume doesn't know how to interact with it. You can fake it by creating particles / meshes that match the same size and position as the afterburn system... probably by using spheres for your particles and using that in a mesher

Thanks for that info. I'll try it.
I pulled this off (see below) the Sitni Sati site from the Products/FumeFX/FusionWorks section. Is it just me misunderstanding this? What do they mean? I wrote them but I never heard back. at least not yet. (four days)
- It is a well known fact that 3ds Max does not support proper blending of various atmospheric entries. Inside 3ds Max, atmospherics are rendered according to their order inside Atmospherics rollout, regardless of their distance from camera, or their possible overlapping in world space.
- FusionWorks is our new technology that will overcome this problem and allow all Sitni Sati atmospheric effects (FumeFX, AfterBurn, DreamScape and ScatterVL Pro) to blend properly. It also allows proper blending between FusionWorks enabled plug-in and standard 3ds Max fog. Image below is an example of proper blending between FumeFX, ScatterVL Pro and standard 3ds Max Fog.
Sounds like they mix to me!?!

FumeFX and Scatter VL Pro are the only plugins with FusionWorks implemented, AFAIK. I think AB 4.0 and DS 3.0 will have it implemented, but I could be wrong.

All this means is that they will render properly together (ie no flat overlapping), it doesn't imply motion interaction between the plugins.
