I was searching for character sets like maya's, in c4d, but couldn't find anything. For those unfamiliar with the term, character sets are used to group (for keyframing) similar objects & attributes of a character for easier and cleaner key management.
For example you can have a character set for all the fingers of a character, so when you key a finger, you key everything in the set (all the fingers).
Also you only see the keys of the active character set which allows managing the keys more efficiently.
So it's basically for grouping keyframes into more convienient groups, instead of having everything on it's own.

I heard xsi has something similar (with a different name), and I was wondering if c4d has something like this as well.

Thanks in advance

I didn'y know selection object could be used liked that.. Thanks, I'll experiment

Edit:
I don't think it's the same thing... I meant grouping the actual keys. In parallel with the selection object, what a character set would do is when you key an object included in the selection, it would key everything else in the selection as well, while a selection object is used for restricting auto-keying to objects on the list... At least from what I could tell..

Yes benytone is correct but there is an additional step.

After creating the selection object do the following; near the keyframe button there are 2 additional red buttons. Click and hold down the red button that has a question mark and select the name of the selection object.

Now when creating keyframes everything in the selection object will have keyframes generated.

That's what I was looking for, thanks. :)

also for tidying up what parameters are recorded on each object, in the attributes manager you cna right click on any attributes and go to animation/set keyframe selection Parameters that are set are indicated with white text (in the light layout) Only parameters marked as such will be recorded too.

Thanks, I was aware of that, but always good to have such info gathered together.

What would be nice to have in the future, is something like the sub-character sets, that would allow us to key the group that the selected object belongs without having to switch selections everytime we animate a different group. Just selecting & keying the items instead. :)

Since I started, another question I had, is there an option to see the Axis in World Mode in the editor, when in Object or Model mode??
When modelling in polygon/edge/point mode you get all kinds of options for the tool to see it in world/local/normal coordinates and others, but when in object or model mode, they're always in object coordinates, which imho is a bit restricting...

I've been asking for that type of functionality for a few years now, sadly the selection object is something maxon doesn't touch much.
