It's great they're still developing this after all these years. Just about the only competition Adobe has left.

That said, I've tried using probably every version since 4 or so and just can't stick with it.

In PhotoPaint I see amazing potential for someone to finally come up with a decent alternative for Photoshop and for some reason it just keeps lagging behind. In terms of GUI and features they're probably closer than anyone else on the market today, but somehow they can't position it as a professional solution. The latest versions of Photoshop definitely aren't known for their massive new features and still Photopaint is missing features needed by professionals today.

They could release the whole suite for Linux, add a few features required by professionals like proper 32bit support (which Photoshop is still lacking) and they'd have that whole market for themselves...

Hmmm $429 seems like a good price, I've always steered clear of Corel, I never got on with it, but... Now I'm running a new business I can't justify buying PS, I love it and miss using it, but hopefully I will take to the trial of this version of Corel. Been a long time since I used their products and $429 seems like a bargain... Especially when you live in the UK :o)

I have to use Corel Draw 12 every day, and it's the buggiest and at times most irritating bit of software. It has some good tools, but the program just fails horribly when you need a lot from it.

I'm a little scared to touch anything else from Corel.

I remember when Coreldraw and Illustrator were competitors. Now it seems that Adobe is dominating the whole entire digital illustration market.

Coreldraw is still a pretty good program though.

Maybe I'll look again at X4...

I shouldn't say I'm scared to touch anything else from Corel, actually. I just grabbed PhotoImpact X3, which is (to me) a good alternative to Photoshop.

Well after a quick play with painter, I have found that the paint brush is no where near as responsive!!! Major flaw for any painting needs...

But the illustration doesn't seem to lack any of these flaws, mind it's one big brush so it doesn't have to deal with pressure sensitivity, but you can have tapered brushes, not quite the same but hey ho, might post proper findings at some point in the near future and after I've had a decent play...
