View Full Version : Rigid Bodies, not behaving

I have a bunch of active rigid bodies, that I want to fall out of a container on cue. The container, however, is moving. While it moves the rigid body contents need to stay very still, but also need travel with the container. Various reasons prevent me from making the conatiner a passive rigid body. Is there a way to group then constrain/parent the rigid bodies within so that they will travel along and spill out when I turn the gravity field on?

Thanks

dynamics in maya can be finicky so often times I make bumpers and sheilds to help push/move things along the way I want and I simply just turn those pieces of geometry off or put a clear shader on them so they don't show up in the final render

do one of two things.......

take your container make a copy of it and turn it into a passive rigid body. and again, just turn it off so it doesn't render or put a clear shader on it........cut and paste the same animation to it or simply just parent it to the original.

now if your container is very high in polys turning it into a passive rigid body will make playback choke....often times I make a very very low res copy just to help keep things moving and rendering smoothly

You can key pasive rigid bodies (stuff in container), then active them at right timing, setting active to on.
There is mel script to unparent and preserve animation on the object after you animate them all together with the parent, this might also be usefull if you have problems with above...
