Shake and several other applications also render IFF files.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that FinalCut can edit IFF sequences.
Most other image sequence formats are supported by using QuickTime reference files as a bridge. You import the sequence into QuickTime Pro (included with FinalCut), save a quicktime reference file (usually only a few k in size since it's only storing information about the sequence ... not the images themselves) and then use the resulting quicktime MOV as you would any other video file in FCP.

Anyway ... I'm using QuickTime 7.3.1 and it doesn't seem to recognize an IFF sequence I just rendered from Shake. Looks like you may have to convert to another format first ... or render to a different format from Maya.

FCP will recognize anything that Quicktime recognizes.

So install Maya PLE, which includes a quicktime IFF component which will allow fcp to read IFF files.
