Have used the modeling tools up until now, and now I want to get started on animation.

However, right now, I'm curious about how to key the depth of field in Maya.

It is not like keying any transform changes is it?

Please enlighten me :) I only need a clue.

if you dont have transparent objects or anything like this , I would always try to do DOF in the post. so , rendering a Z channel is all you need.

animating DOF in maya can be really terror and its slow, too.

To animate DOF, turn it on it the camera atributes. right click on the atribute you want to key (on the word next to the slider). You'll get a menu and one of the options is set key. adjust settings and set key again.

So if I leave the box checked (render Z channel) or whatever it is in the render globals, in AE I can mess with the DOF? :curious:

THATS AWESOME, WHY DIDNT I KNOW THAT BEFORE :banghead:

You may also want to select zdepth under the cameras options as well.
Select Camera>CameraShape>OutputSettings>ZDepth
