Hello all! Sorry if I post this in the wrong section but I am in need of some pivotal source of knowledge amidst all you pros out there. I want to tack on the task of teaching myself motion graphics or broadcast design, similar to what can be found by the great people at Exopolis (http://www.exopolis.com/home/portfolio.php). To my knowledge, it would require some sort of compositing software (AE) with the combination of 3D software (Maya) and other external programs (like PS) to put everything together. Currently I have a intermediate understanding of using Maya/AE and you may view some of my work here (www.juliangraphics.com (http://www.juliangraphics.com/)) I have minor experience in After Effects which I assume is the program primarily used but am looking to take my skills to the next level by implementing the two or tacking on other software that is more prone towards the process of making the motion graphics more "streamlined." I believe that motion graphics will tie all my skills together and help my goal in becoming an overall digital artist.

I am also looking for great reference in which to use. I found some book such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Motion-Graphics-Effects-CD-ROM/dp/0879306068) but would like to get others opinion on great reference material for learning the stuff, along with DVD tutorials. I know this is a fairly broad question, but I am looking to hit the ground running and have atleast a beginners level of experience within a month or so. Please respond if you have any relevant experience creating motion graphics/broadcast design. Thanks to everyone who chips in and I hope this helps others in search of mastering this wonderful medium. Regards!

fxphd.com is having a motion-graphics central term this semester (started last week), you might want to look into it if you want to get some more training. There's a strictly motion graphics-AE course being taught by Tim Clapham of hypa.tv , and also an Apple Motion course, a typography course, and a bunch more. Trust me it's totally worth it... If you decide to join, just feel free to mark me down as referring you!

Other than that, you also might want to take a look at Cinema4D and the Mograph module, it's making a lot of headway into the motion graphics industry.

you should check motionographer (http://www.motionographer.com)

there are a lot of links there...check all link to tutorials, like videocopilot, creativecow, ayatoweb, etc.

the book that you said is for a old version of AE (6.5)... maybe you should check After Effects Apprentice (http://www.amazon.com/After-Effects-Apprentice-DV-Expert/dp/0240809386/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201479740&sr=8-1)from the same authors
