View Full Version : Cloth texturing?????
Stonepilot 04-27-2003, 04:36 AM I was wondering if anyone can make some suggestions on texturing clothing. I don't mean how to apply textures. Its more like what kind of Shader you would use and what settings. I'm using maya. I got hired by this game company I applied as a environment artist but my boss felt that I'd be more suited for organic modeling cause of my traditional background sounds great since I goal was to do organic in the long run. But now I have to texture clothing on one of the characters. I'm having a hard time getting convincing results. So any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what it is that you are struggling with - creating a shader, or actually painting cloth textures?

One trick for making cloth is repeating a small pattern hundreds of times. You will see that I did this in the following seamless texture. The streaks and shadows were then added to give more variety.
You may try doing similar work by using a few layers in Photoshop, with a tightly repeating pattern as the base layer. I admit that I used a Genetica, a seamless texture generator, to whip out this image, but unfortunately that software won't be released until this summer. (Sorry for the watermark in the corner--that's how it appears on our webpage.)
