This one represent the Feren-Rinr statue in a deep forest,with a group of demon monkeys discovering it!

ps:Just about this challenge......It is ideal to make a good image in term of "environment"....till now the attention of artist was on the character modeling....ok it is good,but, how much time u see rendered scene on the web every day and u find urself say"WOW"......well ,if so,may be your turn to make someone say WOW about ur work! I look at this challenge from this point of view......personal i know......if u want to reconsider ur position about april Challenge,i will be happy to work with u,great artists ,one time again.

I think the second one would be the better to do. I'd LOVE to see that one! Clouds, landscape, whatever, but most importantly, the demon figure dynamic and alive. I agree with the previous poster that the statue idea would limit the model.

The textures are work in prog....i dont mind exactly where i found it,but it was a store on line.Is a bit strange that u ask to me 4 chinese like textures!! u are from Kuala Lumpur and there were a lot of stunning texil artworks in ur country!! (read it in a book:p never been there:annoyed: )......I want to post the texture process.From the base texture to a self produced taking the first as a guide!..so stay tuned!i will post my textures directly here!

Well I like the first and the second one, so it is a bit difficult, :confused: because I love the texture of his pant's. In the sculpture of stone there is no texture of clothes material but there is in the one that he's attacked by monkey birds. But on the other hand the contrast of the dark in the font and then the sculpture in the light that goes through the leaves is really nice.

OK I love this idea..................The forest/jungle type look is wonderful, keep that idea.........but forget about the statue idea...........too dull for such a nice character.

Pose your character in a fight position with a few demon/harpie type creatures you have already sketched all attacking him. Put this fight sequence in a forest/jungle setting you have already thought of and shown in your other sketch. Combine the two thoughts is what I think.

So both forest/jungle and fight pose................Much more of a high quality work then a simple beach and surfboard setting and shot in my opinion.

Now get to it..............I am anxious to see your beautiful work............:D

Pretty strange "tatoo like" skin uh?....the bump is a bit high because in the final image the monkeys will be very little in the screen and many surface details will be lost.So,a little ++bump may solve the problem.......:rolleyes:

I think the pics are a bit too small... can tell whats goin on with the foilage... the lighting is quite good as it pics up the relief very well.

Perhaps vines would be best to augment them. Brownish with a nice texure on em to rough em up.

But when I would be walking through the forest and suddenly this old temple would show up I would get the feeling to :bowdown: . It could use some stairs to the doorway because if I would fit in the doorway I had to clime the huge and only 3 steps counting stair. O and lose the spot, I get the idea I'm in a theatre. :suprised:
I think it is a great temple for the scene and you work unbelievable good with such an amount of projects

Well I know it's just your first attempt, but I'll coment any way.
wel first I have to thank you for helping me with my stair's I succeded in making one still not totally happy but that will chance when I get a hang of the program.
My comets.
If im right hou have a flat ground with a bumb texture on it. I think it is kind of flat so my idea was to make onky in the for ground some 3D objec's.
Then the light that shines on the temple is a bit weard and maybe you can make the shadow of the leaves clearer. then Maybe ther can be a bit more of contrast between the background and forground.

HAHA thanks a lot OZ, It makes me feel good to hear that you like the model, so actually you know what? it is made on XSI 2.0, I know Maya too, but since XSI is getting very strong and promises a lot as far as I hear I wanna learn it better and do my demo on it, it actually comes with shave and hair cut by joe alter which i have heard is extremely good but the thing is fur takes too long to render and i think that when you are not gonna put some nice and long hair it is not worth the rendering time so thats why i want a good texture like the one you made for you demon. so but why were you saying it would be good to use a procedural? isnt the one of your demon a texture map done in photoshop? well i hope to hear from you soon so you can give me a hand ;)

You know what OZ I want to give it a simple fur texture just like Jack Russells look, you know mostly white with a few brown spots on the eyes that go to the ears and i think the have a brown spot on the back too. but well i guess i dont need to explain you that i want that same feeling of hair like it has diferent shadings. i just thing the texture of your demon is perfect

why you dont use a mix material with a mask and make the nose and lips more wet with another material.

this two areas are total diferent of the rest of the body, and need two be more specular ...
with a good result if you use a combination of procedurals in the specular slot because the specular in this areas is not regular ,the reason is taht is organic and imperfect.

and a procedular combination too in bump slot.

Use of the stripes is awesome, and the blend into the orange tiger on the hand is a severely nice touch. The feet almost seem like lion fur. He's like the uber-cat. Everything else remains badass as before..this guy is still one of my favorite designs ever.

to liquid_tension: Im really sorry to answer u so late!!!:D grrr .........past week my work kill me!Well,in case of complex model as your one of the biggest difficult job is to put a correct uv map......now,xsi got great procedurals that have the big advantage of 3d automapping.So may be very quick and effective to make fur as a procedural texture.If u want make a fur texture in the traditional way,well the best thing is to make a color base of the spotted (colomap) areas in photoshop,and then put a photo of real fur on it as a gray bitmap pasted in overlay mode.
This is my way of work about fur textures.I hope to be exhausting.If not ask me more,i will be happy to answer as quick as i can.Ps: If u dont find good fur textures i could give u some.

well at least the red on the makss is kinda weird now that I think of ir. too saturated. I assume you are going for a glowing eye or something in the masks(if not then I'm an idiot sometimes) but they do standout from everything else.

Hmmm

Very nice, but I think the composition is way off, also the lighting could use more attention. Maybe a bit more contrast and also scale the character down because he is to large now....

Is ok Sangotten!I just see the same problems.If u remember the in the very firt concept this image was a bit different,with Feren-rinr as a giant sculpture,and not an alive char.the light 4 a so complex scene deserve.....no...JUST NEED a lot of work......another month i think.:p he he he he.....

very good composition on this two images.

the others final images in my opinion there are too many things near the character that disturb the global overview too much things and diferents colours in the images.
