Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forums and just wanted to know a little about Low Poly Modeling. I've been putting together a demo reel and was going to throw in some low poly models, but seeing how I usually make hi-poly models, I was wondering what constitutes as Low Poly? What's the max poly count for it to still be considered low poly?

I tried doing a search but my web browser just sits there not loading anything, so just wanted to let you know i'm not lazy!!

Thanks!

theres no real count. It all depends on what your making. The more detail to the model, like for example a human, you have to have polygons to make things work. Theres no such thing as a set amount for low and hi poly. Low is as low as you want it to be to reach the level of detail. Like for ps1 games back in the day you had to have super low poly counts cause the system couldn't handle it back than. now for ps3 for example the poly count is huge so people are able to make high poly models for the game.

so to clarify, theres no set amount, it depends on the object your making, and the ammount of detail/smoothness you want for that object. If you want to make something low poly, you want to make it have the curves in the places you want, but not be as super smooth and super detailed like you would have in something hi poly

hope this helped

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. This helped a lot. I usually make high poly items but was just curious as to the poly count that game companies prefer. I know there is really no set count but since i'm unfamiliar with game companies, I just wanted to have a ball park idea of what they want it at. Thanks again!
