View Full Version : select polylines > add polylines

Hi !!

I am adding an image to visualize what I am searching for.

Imaging a polymesh where several polylines (not equidistant)
are selected.

As next step I want to create 1 or 2 polylines (left or right of the original - or both sides as in the attached image) which should run exactly parallel to each of the selected polylines.

Each of these new polylines should have exactly the same
distance from the original selected polyline.

I work with 8.5 and have Meshsurgery. Problem with MS :

- I only can do one cut with the scalpel, so if I selected 40
polylines I have to repeat this step 40 respectively 80 times.

- The adjustable cutting-distance in MS Scalpel is in percent and
not units. So if I adjust it to say 5 % and the polylines are not
placed at the same distance from each other, cuts / new poly-
lines will not be placed at the same distance for all cuts.

That is why I am loking for another solution.

Any help greatly appreciated. Regards [T]

I'm not sure about 8.5 but the effect in your image can be achieved in 9.6 by using the Bevel tool in edge mode with Subdivision set to 1.

Once upon a time there was a plugin that let you cut up an object based on world units, but I don't think it would work on selected loops. Actually there were maybe two plugins -- one by a Japanese guy I think, and another by Per-Anders. Unfortunately I don't recall the names....

I think EdgeBevel is what you are looking for.

Hey thank you 3 for the suggestions

Arndts edge bevel works great for a single selection
but not for multiple selections.

The inbuilt bevel works pretty fine but deletes the
initial poyline.

if you set subdivision to one the bevel tool should keep the original line.
