Title: Chubby Steel
Name: Branko Bistrovic
Country: Canada
Software: Painter, Photoshop

Yet another one I did a few months back, but here it is now., pickled and all!
The whole piece was done digitally, from sketch to finish. I used Painter to work out the preliminaries (gesture, lighting) and then switched between it and Photoshop as the painting progressed.

wow man, that`s one of my favorite pieces from you; really cool lightning, really cool colors and really cool rendering of materials
only the lightning on the face and on the torso could be a bit more flesh-like, but that`s nitpicking
I really dig your style
cheers,
Mathias

I really like this piece A LOT. I realise you were trying to show the full silhouette of the sword but nothing would hold a sword like that.

... is he trying to blind his enemy with the reflections of his sword :scream: ( thats my only concern, somehow i have the feeling he holds the sword wrong ) ...

... the rest is plain brilliant, awesome work ... thx

Pretty sweet peice....I agree with the sword placement....I think if you just flip it so the blade faces up you would be fine...unless of course there is a reason our hero is holding his sword this way =)

beautiful lights and colors but mainly the position of the guy, how he is standing up while moves, very natural.

GREAT!!

Thank you for the replies and crits everyone. I suppose I should explain my reasoning behind the sword, I realize it certainly doesn't seem to be gripped at the right angle to be used appropriatly, and it's too wide to really be used as a stabbing tool, but I wanted to really sell the curve of it and add more width for some blindng reflection, so I opted to have it gripped as such. I had it angled more appropriately before but then the composition was really lacking to me, so in the end it was really just less reasoning and more gut reaction. This of course has led to a split between individuals who have seen the piece before I altered the sword. Some prefered the old version, some the new, and at this point I'm sort of indifferent either way!
:scream: :P

Anyhow, I'll try to keep updating every week or so, I really appreciate some of the feedback, keeps me on my toes and keep me pushing, so once again, thank you!
