I've been thinking about this exact thing for some time and the problem I keep coming up against is that future space combat will be very boring. Invisible energy beams, kinetic kill weapons so fast the eye cannot even see them, depressurizing spaceships, or shutting down their electronics are not exactly the stuff of dramatic visuals.

I think someone at that forum has it right: A hit almost certainly equals a kill in space, and the hits would be quite unspectacular, typically microscopic or invisible to the naked eye. You certianly could launch a nuke at a ship, but it's (pardon the expression) overkill and totally unnecessary.

It would certainly be a huge challenge to creat a dramatic visual interpretation of accurate space combat, but wouldn't space-based sports & recreation be more fun? Hopefully it will also be more prevalent 100 years from now.

Think of this as the US war of Independence part II.

The world at the time is divided in 5 superpowers

United America
European Consortium
Russian Union
Crescent Alliance
Asian Union

The because of the effort and money the Mars Colonies were formed as a joint effort from United America, European Consortium and the Russian Union and have existed for about 60 years.

After the Moon colony, Mars is THE second largest colony in the solar system.
The capital of the colony is the Gustav.

The free mars armed forced of mars were formed as part of the colonial civil defense force (land) and the mars mining guild (Air/Space).

What equipment would the earth forces haves?
What equipment would the free mars movement have?
Remember that the free mars forces are outgunned, so they WILL fight dirty.

And for earth to fight this war, will come to a great expense. And the moon colonists are not exactly happy campers either.
BTW the main ally for the Free mars movement is the powerful Asian Union who have their own independent Mars colony.. The Red Blossom.

The year is 2107.



After the Moon colony, Mars is THE second largest colony in the solar system.
Their core economies are based on:
• Mining
• Space Tourism
• Gateway Port.


The because of the effort and money the Mars Colonies were formed as a joint effort from United America, European Consortium and the Russian Union and have existed for about 60 years.. This association brought up the creation of the Mars Development Group (MDG). Based in Toronto (the capitol of United America), the MDG is an earth based semi private organization tasked with the development of the planet. Their charter mission is to keep the shipping yards running, and the ore flowing. The colonies build on the surface of Mars there ONLY to support these efforts.

On Mars an almost feudal system has been developed where a few families have driven the development the planet. But in spite of this the planet is fiercely democratic.

The colony has a board of elected regents, representing each of the mayor habitats, and a colony administrator appointed by the MDG.

Security is handled by two organizations:
Colonial civil defense force.
(Habitat / Mine Security & Port Security- think Police & Coast Guard)
MDG Security force
(Security force under the command of the Administrator- Think National guard)

Because of the distance and effort the development of Mars, the Martians were left mostly to fend for themselves. For sixty years thousands have live and died under the red skies of Mars. The harsh environment has created a resentful attitude towards the meddlesome efforts of the earth government in their affairs.
More recently an independence movement called “Red Sky” has formed among the populace.


The straw that broke the camels back was the appointment by the MDG of an administrator. This bureaucrat with little space experience established draconian controls on the habitats in the name of security. Also the MDG started a push for the elimination of the board of regents, after the board voted for the creation of a constitution.

• There is another INDEPENDENT colony system on Mars formed by the Asian Union called the Red Blossom. More on them later.
