you may try to render in layers
with one render particles only
& then merge the frame you like
with your other layer(s)
in your favorite compositing proggy
hope this helps
since there could be problems with this method when
- your frozen particles shall still move within the project
- they are partially transparent & your background changes overtime
- they have to throw shadows...
although most of these would be no problem for an advanced comp-proggy, i guess

Which particle system are you thinking of and what effect are yout trying to achieve?

I'm trying to make clouds using sprites and blobbies particles emited from objects surfaces. I'm following a XSI tutorial but I don't know how to freeze particles in A:M. I think it isn't possible.
The cloud shapes should be animated and deformed.
What is the best way to achieve that effect?
