Hi Guys!

I currently have a project aimed for film. The problem I have is a certain work flow or solution that can be used to project images in a 3d matte that has a 270 degree camera move.

Imagine the camera zooming in and at about a few frames near the center it turn 270 degrees counterclocwise. That obviouslly needs a 270 degree sky but the problem mostlly is in the 3d objects where the matte is projected on.

Since most of the images breaks at a certain angle, I would like to ask you guys on how we can solve this problem or any input on how to project the images or how many projections should I use in order for me to create a believable 270 degree camera turn.

Any advice would be great and highly appreciated! http://www.mattepainting.org/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

well it sounds scary, maybe you have an animatic that can show us better the camera movement, also it all depends on the time, sometimes motion blur helps a lot, but as far as I understand maybe matte painting won't be a solution at least for foreground ,you can do multiple projection in 3ds max with camera per pixel materials, but any way I would like to see first a layout animation

if there foreground is composited later (so you only have the background), I would go for a classic cyclorama...(even tho you don't hit 360 degrees). Project it onto a cylinder and you're done...if however you do have foreground in the matte...it gets trickier..as James said we need to see the camera move...show us a dolly shot.

EDIT: Another sollution I can think of is to break the scene into a matte background, and a 3d render animation (Vue? or Max, whatever suits you) for the foreground zoom part and after you zoomed in you go for the cyclorama with that background....Then you composite everything in Nuke...or even After Effects can do ;)

I hate to do this, but I guess I have no choice... I can't post the animatics, since I'n bounded to filn rights etc etc.

So I guess I'n stuck, and I have to do it the hard way... Test and retest...

But like I said, basically the scene features a city where the camera zooms in at a birds eyeview with the horizon seen at a distance. Problen comes in when the camera turns the angle around the center where the mattes breaks. I'm planning to project 3 mattes with a wipe, done seamlesslly with element from the scene. Hopefully this would be the right approach. :D

they realy put you to hard work from the first days eh? :D IMO they should gradually give you tasks, specially since you just started with this style...but oh well.
Make them aware that this is quite a hard shot.

Google Andrew Kramer Video Co Pilot, if you are using after effects it might be of help

Good luck!

Suirebit and Rocky (sorry for the pun) I think I stumbled on a great way to solve the problem. I probably post my solution here since I still have tons of test and restest to do. This might be a good help for all those who might have the same problem. :D If any of you guys have another way to tackle this problem, I'm all ears. :D
