View Full Version : do maya fluids not have an alpha channel?

I'm pretty new to fluids and I'm rendering and I just realized that my fluid doesnt have an alpha channel, I'm rendering with sw and the alpha checkbox is checked in the render globals :) .. is something wrong or does fluids not have an alpha?

Yes, fluids have alpha.
Did you by any misstake render your image into a format that doesn't support alpha? (Sorry for the srupid question, but sometimes the solution is within the simplest thing)

haha, nope, tga.. yeah that mistake would be right up with not having the alpha checkbox checked. :) thanks for letting me know that they do have alpha, now I know it must be a problem with my scene... so I can troubleshoot... thanks much

yeah, I don't have maya documentation installed on this comp.... :( it makes learning new things so much harder and makes me ask simple questions on cgtalk... :)

yeah, i should have just did a test with a new scene :) a new fluid works find with the apha..
So its a problem with my scene or the preset flame that I modified

the flame presets do have really bad alphas. Usually I turn the alpha gain to about 3 to get a proper alpha
Usually when compositing fire you use an "add" or "lighten" so the alpha isn't so important
