View Full Version : Video for Animation
HUFO_2000 01-15-2008, 05:36 AM Like many of us,
We dont have the funds for a moCap session. So I was woundering if you could in fact use video references of your movements as frame by frame references and adjust the model accordingly. How is this possible and what software actually supports this? Can I use different video's for different views as well ( Like if I record one movement but on two cameras).

I know in Maya you can. This concept is called rotoscoping and is relativly easy in maya. After you capture the video you need to convert it to an image sequence using something like quicktime pro or Adobe Premiere pro, when you go to save the sequence you have to have a certain naming convention for example ( image.01. ) I believe that you have to have the . there. It's been awhile since I've done this so I don't remember what it is. After you have your sequence it's just a matter of making a plane in your scene and then applying the image sequence to that geomotry and setting it to read as an image sequence. It's fairly straight forward once you get past the image naming and I'm pretty sure there are tutorials out there online to do it. As far as doing it in other packages such as MAX XSI or anything else I'm sure you can but I don't know how you do it. Hope this helps!

I once took screenshots of a video from Youtube to use as a guide for keyframes, I just put it as a texture on an object behind the character.
Although I believe you can add videos to the viewport background in Max, you just need to tick an option to make it sync up the frames so it moves along with the timeline.
