View Full Version : BarFly Nun
BigRanS123 04-26-2003, 12:19 AM A nun type girl with a mec. arm. Im not sure who did the con art because it was just handed to me, but i will find out and get that up.
The model is for a project called PolyGrinder and i have been working on it for a few days, on and off.
here is the concept art.

The arm that is in the concept did not look like it would that interesting in 3d.
My friend Andez Gaston drew me up another arm that pushes the limits of the ram on my computer now, and Im not done with the model.

I need to know how to make real looking glass.
If you know of some good settings for glass in Max, tell me, please.
All of your help is needed. If you help me with this you will go to the top of the stack of good people in my book...

Thats looking good, like the art concept very much.
About that glass, how much do you like this?
It shure can improve a lot, i have been plaing with that a couple of minutes and think it´s in that way.
First i flip the normals of the inside faces of the bottle, and aply to it a second glass material, witch have almost non especular level, and is set to aditive in the extended parameters.
Well, as said before, it has a long way to go, but seems to me that the solution can be in that direction.
Hope i could help.

Did you mean nun or nurse? She seems more like a nurse with those hypodermic needles on the arm, and that body - whew - that's not a nun's body.
In any event, forget the arm for now. Let's see the body!!!
holy shit, i mean WOW!!! ;)
nice original concept and great progress in the 3d work!

octopus77: thanks for the glass man.... I never thought to use two types of glass reflections and settings...thanks for the help
betelgeuse: Her name (title) was nun..but I thought of her more as a nurse, cause of all the med. stuff...so I had Andez put more reference to nurse things.
l7d: Thanks, I will more posts up soon, so stay tuned.
Hmura: Thanks for the glass link!!! I will go through it and see what I can see.

Wow, this is really great stuff so far, I especially like the boots you've created. You have a lot of visual talent, not to mention great modeling skills. The only thing I would suggest taking a closer look at would be your character's bottom lip. It looks a little off to me, as the lips are lacking the proper bow shape they should have. The bottom lip and usually more narrow than the top.
BigRanS123
07-24-2003, 06:44 PM
Here is the new pic of the girl...
Obsidian: I will go back and look at the lip and see what I can do.
The face is giving me the most problems of all. I need to do another face after this so that I can get better.

Last picture you posted looks like it has some improvements. Looking at the concept though, the 3D head looks too long. I'd move the lips up a little, then select all the verticies above the nostril and squish them a bit (length wise) and see how that looks. You might also want to make the eyes a little smaller. Was this from the joan of arc tutorial? I see alot of resemblences (sp?). Right now your head is looking older than the concept, try making the chin a little wider as well.
I'm loving those boots  Keep up the great work :)

I would say more definition on the hand, the inside of the hand looks too smooth. Try adding wrinkles/dents where the fingers bend.

WOW,
Thanks for the feedback.
supervlieg: I will go in and do some more work to the hands, the one thing that I don’t want to have happen is to get pinching in the mesh, lots of it I can get with a bump map..
IDownupI: coming right up!!
PureFire: The size of the head has been one of the hardest things to get down, so I will go in and see what needs to happen..
Arcana_x: I am keeping the two files apart till I get a little farther along, but her is a shot of the bottom of the arm.. nothing is made to work, just to look like there is a lot of stuff in the arm..:D
Keep the help coming..

that background is terrible!
its too blurry
and i think her head is too big..
apart from that i cant wait to see her textured.

I changed the background, because I did not want it to influence the way that people feel about my 3D.. I am obviously not a background Image kind of guy  so I will stay with what I know..
I have changed the image above so that the background does not sway the feelings of my 3D..
Thank you,

Great modelling, but it looks likes shes gonna fall over to the right side. Her arm is way to big, she looks out of balance
unicron
08-06-2003, 05:19 PM
It looks pretty good... but I agree that the head is too big for the body. It also looks like there are some proportional problems with the face.
The Mech arm is so big that she looks like she would topple over. I think that you should either scale that arm down, or make some kind of counter balance on the other shoulder... maybe both?
Another thing I see is that she doesn't look as stylized as your drawing on the first page of the thread... Her torso isn't as long, she's not as thin as the drawing, etc... Did you just choose to go for a more realistic body structure?
Obsidian
08-07-2003, 06:17 PM
I agree that the head and mech arm are a little too large for the rest of her. The boots and straps legs/hips look really cool, which makes the rest of her outfit seem lacking. Perhaps you could add some more of the same to flesh it out a little bit? It could be just that the extreme detail of the mech arm makes her upper body look plain...
Hellwolve
08-07-2003, 07:42 PM
Here's my C&C:
-The mech arm is a bit too big
-It stands out from the body too much. And I mean literly, e.g. the conection between the arm and shoulder should be shorter IMHO
Corth
08-13-2003, 10:51 PM
I hate to repeat this, but the arm is too long, and it does go too far out from the shoulder. Also, if this is a nun, shouldn't there be more black than white?
BigRanS123
08-18-2003, 04:04 PM
Ok,
I have done some mod's to the arm and still have some work to do. I will have a strap on the shoulder thing and some bracing that goes to the pad on her side..
I am working on the environment right now so I will post it next.http://bigrans.250free.com/post29.jpg

KUNG-FU NUNS sounds like an awesome idea
I had some time to do some texturing and rigging to her and placed her in an environment.
I snagged these shots from a targa rendered with fields that I did for my tape, so they look a little fuzzy..
