Hi!

I have a simple scene with a couple of polygonal planes, and a shader that is using a ramp from black to white linked to its transparency.

When I raytrace the scene ( using a point light with raytraced shadows - maya default renderer ) the final shadows are not representative of the transparency of the objects...

basically.. the shadows are all being cast as if the object is completley opaque and not taking into account the transparency...

why is this ?

any help would be fantastic.

Check the depth of the shadows on your light. Usually trace depth is just 1.
