I just don't get it why the preview looks so bad. I have maya on another machine and this doesnt happen...

Here are the renders I made:

Left: render preview
Right: saved image

- This is a fresh install of Maya 2008
- Quality preset: Production
- I already have a 1:1 ratio turned on
- doesnt matter if I render with Maya or Mental Ray, same result
- The Alpha channel has the same case, bad in preview, good when saved.
- My video card is an ATI Radeon with 512mb

Looks like it's a bug.
Try to resize up/down the renderview window and it should go.

Yeah I have been having that problem on one of my computers at work. The the previous poster said I just zoom in to 1.001 and it fixes the problem. Also depends on resizing the actual render view window too apparently....weird. :)

have seen similar artifact on render view with some ATI videocards, on both Mac and Pc ... although I don't want to begin a war between NVIDIA and ATI freaks :scream: ...

Maya 2008P03 (apiVersion 200803)

Fixed an issue with image distortion in the renderview on Macintosh with certain graphics cards.[200925]

But it's about Mac only. If you have same problem on PC please report.

I have had this ATI problem on previous Maya versions like 7 ... after that i have NVIDIA cards, so I can't tell about this issue on 2008 ...

Working on an intel mac right now and get the issue in 2008. But I am assuming it's fixed with the coming service pack (or has it already come)? And yes I have an ATI card. :)

It's not annoying though. Have gotten used to setting the zoom to 1.001.

Setting the zoom slightly off 1:1 corrects the issue only 90% I can still see jaggies that shouldn't be there but it's better. Annoying as hell but better.
