View Full Version : looking for a writer.
jorgakis 01-13-2008, 10:32 PM hello everybody,
i am running a small animation studio in berlin, germany. for the production of a "bible" for an animated tv-show i am looking for a writer. one who can write a treatment, character descriptions and if it goes well the pilot-episode.
now the question is. i dont like the german tv-shows and their writers, and since this show is suposed to run international i would like to find an american writer, or at least one who lives there and has experience. now, how do i solve legal problems, like i want to have the rights on everything related to the show. dont get me wrong, i dont want anything for free. but how do i get the right contracts i can trust, if possible at all.
another question, i forgot the questionmarks sorry, how much would everything saied above cost? how much percentege on the income?
thanks for any help and excuse my not so good english please.

Hi,
If you have a "Writer for Hire" then what they write belongs to you. They write for you and are hired to do that. So that should sort out your rights issues. They write and you would retain the rights.
I will check this out for you, just to make sure.
As for cost that would vary on the writer, experience and exactly how much you want done. I am a script writer I don't do any of the animation. One day maybe but not yet! I am British not American but if you are interested I would like to offer my writing services. Send me a message or email to talk more.

You would want to consult a intellectual or creative property rights lawyer over there in Germany so that you can get a clear understanding of your rights as an employer in your home country. It may also be advisable to seek out the advice of an international property or creative rights lawyer as well if you're looking to hire out-of-country, although I would personally think that any writer you bring in from another country would have to honor Germany's laws on this matter. Intellectual and creative property rights can be a very tricky issue though, so I don't think anyone on this forum could really give you the solid advice you need unless they have a German property rights law degree.

thank you jpiette,
you are right i have to consult a lawyer. which i did, but he couldnt help me with my question, what if the writer stays in the us and is hired in germany. oh boy its so complicated. i have to ask other lawyers to.
but its the tricky part i am afraight of. i dont want any bad surprises.
i will post here if i know more about that issue. just in case anyone else is interested.
thank you again for your reply.

Greetings
I am no professional writer, but hope to become one soon. I have been on my own developing my writing style and talents for 3 years. I am not looking to be employed but think it would be a good for me to aid in anyway I can, I am also a Christian and have an associates degree in theology. In the middle of changing careers into 3D animation and writing. I would be more than willing just to give you ideas or concept to use for a story.
If you are interested just pm me or post. I am working on helping a friend put together a video proposal for graduation, but I have time for other side projects.

Howdy!
I'm currently working on computer based training projects as an Instructional Designer and Developer. I analyst the requests and help decide web based training is a viable solution, write out the storyboards, create text and graphics including 2 and 3D animations and movies, write the narrative, narrate the training, and host on an internal site. I started this in 2001 and use Flash, Dreamweaver, 3D Studio Max, Sound Forge, Captivate, SnagIt, and Sorenson Squeeze.
I'd be interested in contributing to your project.
Thanks!
Po~
This is a great guy that I have used in the past.

He's got an amazing bag of tricks. writing is defiantly one of his strong suites.
Plus he's not as expensive as he looks.

Hello,
I don't know if you're looking for writers only in US, but if there's no restrictions, maybe you'd like a Brazillian help. Contact me by e-mail if you are interested > george@georgeamaral.com
