Hey guys.

I did the mapping and some modeling and my friend pjauri concentrated on concepts and modelling. It's still heavy work in progress but I thought that it's progressing well enough to show you guys. Tell me what you think.

Update 9.3.2008:

Wow. That's looking pretty sweet!

Can we get an overview shot of the whole level? Is that bridge that goes to the rocket functional, or just for looks?

Thanks!
That bridge is just for looks and I'm planning to redo it to make it more believable.
I'll post the overview when we got most of the layout done.

WOW
I really like what I see here...
I hope it plays as well as it looks - lots of geometry there... what's the frame-rates like?

Thank you!

Framerates are fine. Looking forward to test it out and see it on a full server.

Wow, that looks nice. Love the rocket. Can we test it on the CGTalk server (Fri & Sat night weekly games)? PM me a link for download and I'll put it into server rotation.

wow that's one wicked looking map, i wonder though (and maybe this is a difference between PC and 360 display) are the colours maybe a little to dark/satureated? maybe it's how dark the shadows are, but something feels just th tiniest bit off colour-wise. also, what gametype is it going to be for? the choices are pretty limited right now, but it does make a difference when your laying out the map.
again, awesome job so far:thumbsup:

You've got some sweet props going on in your map, the rocket ship especially. (if you didn't know about it previously, look up pakrat to help embed all your content into the BSP when it's ready to distribute)

There are a few questions that are raised when I look at your screens, but they're super nitpicky. Such as the texture alignment of the angled platform in your third screenshot and why is the door off-center of the stairs in your fourth shot. The lighting in your fifth screenshot seems a little dark too, but that seems to be something that's really difficult to nail down. Feels very hardware dependent. On my map things look pretty much fine, but to a lot of the players who've tried it out they are crying for more lights so play with it and see if you can find a happy medium.
Not sure how much of the overall map is finished in your screenshots, but what you have is looking like a great start. Can't wait to see more and hopefully try it out on our weekly battles.

SWEEEET ! the rocket is probably the most impressive part of the map !

Hello and thanks for the kind words.

Like you mentioned, few interior lights are a bit dark. They're still under construction like pretty much all the indoor areas. I'm tweaking the lights and adding more detail to interiors.

And kromano, those texture aligment errors are fixed. Too bad they made into those screenshots ;)

I'll keep you guys updated with new screens soon!

This map looks like a lot of fun to play. I can't wait to test this. We could use a good custom CP map on the Cgtalk servers.

You're putting me to shame. Excellent lighting, great texture use and alignment, much better use of the 3d skybox than I've ever cooked up... in all this map is looking extremely impressive. I hope you have a playable version soon to try out with our Friday night and Saturday night games.

Heya!

Here's some digitalpaintings I've painted for the map. Travel ad will be placed on a diner's wall and the cosmonaut piece will be placed somewhere on the red side as a poster.

Enjoy!

New screenshots are looking amazing. I'm getting the impression that this map is taking place on a satellite or something orbiting the earth, as that globe looks like more than just a corporate logo.

The new diner looks awesome too, very retro feel to the whole map. It's starting to seem like a 1950s military base in the desert, complete with company barracks for the familes and that cozy diner on the corner. Classic movie set cliche. It's coming along nicely.

I'm very glad you toned down the planet in the sky. It sure was distracting.

A Shade01 is right man, your just playing with us. That Level looks Great just Let us Play it all ready. I mean come on your level all ready looks better then 99.999999999999999999999% of all the custom maps out there. Wait now that I think of it 100%. You shouldnt worry about how the public will see it man. Most of the TF2 gamers that play your map will think its a Valve Map man. Just Let us Play it!

I agree it looks really awesome already, but don't push him. Perhaps most of the gameplay element aren't set up yet. What good is a map with no goals? The map will be released when it's ready and we'll all have a great time playing it. I can't wait to try it out.

Looks great, ran through it and found one problem. On the blue bases sniper nest you have to be right by the window to see the other side, but that is not necessary for the red team. Besides that the map is great, wonderful job :D

My first impressions of the map were good, especially in the custom props and textures however the central capture point was an area of very huge performance drops.

That said, I was having pretty bad performance all around on every map so I don't know if that area is actually problematic or simply my computer acting up on me. I will load it again and take a look if something jumps out at me, I will post some screenshots and try to document what I'm talking about for you.

Overall this map rocks.
A suggestion for your timer is to look into the hidden map object to control the map timer. Allow the server to deligate how long a round should last based on the map timer. I'll give you the entity configuration when I remember. A regular of the CGTalk server, {CD} Conker let me know about this hidden entity which provides controls over a LOT of different things.

I'm don't have access to TF2 or Hammer at the moment so I can't be more helpful, but I'll probably have something else to say when I get home.

Hello Kromano -

I did not receive any reports regarding bad performance in the map when we tested it in large scale month ago and few days ago before I released the beta versions.

I can look in to it but for me it works just fine.

Thanks for the input anyway, kromano :)

I ran through the map again solo looking around with mat_wireframe enabled and saw nothing that might explain my poor performance so I'm writing it off to a full server and an outdated computer.
