View Full Version : hair frizz animation not working
AdrianLazar 01-13-2008, 01:26 PM Hi guys!
I'm trying to animate an grass field (made with hair) to make some wind waves, and according to XSI documentation the frizz parameter should do just that avoiding the use of forces and dynamics.
The problem is that the parameter just don't work, I did all what the help was saying and not getting any animation.
I'm using 6.02, any idea what might be?
Thanks!

AdrianLazar,
I just hopped on XSI 6.02 and had no trouble getting hair to move via frizz. I've uploaded a small MOV file showing the effect and my scene. The only animated paramater here is the frizz frequency.

grassfrizz scene file for XSI 6.02 (http://www.centerstage3d.com/XSIBASE/grassfrizz.scn)
Hope this helps,

hey JamesCG, that method certainly works but I don't think it was exactly what adrian was looking for, you should be able to use the options in the friz animation section below to give the hair some gentle ambient movement.
I just gave it a go and it did't work for me... But I have used it recently (i think it was in 6.5 though).
This does still use dynamics as far as i know.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply!
Yes, I was talking about the frizz animation parameter that just doesn't work.
James thanks for the scene file, it's a good cheating method :D if I don't get the parameter work!

Pete,
Right you are. My eyes completely missed the animated section of the ppg <doh>. Hmmm I'll check this out later when I get a chance, it's something good to know about when you need to animate grass/hair.
AdrianLazar,
Bummer that the paramater is not working for you, I hope you find a solution soon!
Cheers,
JamesCG
Hey there,
I just had a go in 6.5 and it works fine... It's a bumber, there might be a bug in 6.2?
On thing though Adrian, you still do have to apply a dynamics operator for it to work. But it hardly slows it down.
