This is Rakka, she's from the new Yoshitoshi Abe anime : Haibane - Renmei. I did all the picture from a single illsutration of Abe. i tried for the first time a bit of compositing in photoshop. i found that really hard... :annoyed: i dont uderstand how to use maps rendered separatly(like diffuse, spec, depth...) and recomposited in photoshop. if someone knows a good tutorial about that pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease help me... :buttrock: :buttrock:
well, the picture was made with Lightwave and G2 for the 3d part, Open Canvas and Photoshop for the texture and the compositing parts. it was also the first time i tried G2, which is really great! tell me if you like it...
and excuse my english once again... :D

thank you very much, i'm happy you like it, but you know, it's not really my own style, it's just the way i transfered Abe style into 3d world...
for another view, well, like many of my still pictures, i made the model and textures only to be viewed the way it is, what i mean is that if y ou turn around the head you'll find no hair on the other side of the head and strange textures... :scream: :scream:

hmmm.... what do you mean by Ape? do you really think she looks like an ape? pleaze explain me whats wrong on the picture... maybe you dont like the manga style? i don't understand is it humour or does she really look like an ape?
also i'm french and maybe i don't understand the meaning of your words... is it an expression? wow man it's scary if you think she really looks like an ape... i quit 3d right now if it's the case, and hope it's not...
phew...pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllppppppppp

hehe, i wouldn't fret over it... if it is the style of the character, people will recognize that.

basically "ape" means a low and back forehead and such..

looks good man! though i would get into the practice of modeling a whole character ;)

Very nice man, I still gotta see that anime too. :D It doesnt look like an ape at all. Maybe he got the name "abe" and the word "ape" confused in your post or something. In either case, it looks great. :D

Golden rule #1 of cg

i'm sorry i don't understand the meaning of your sentence... i think i have real problems wih understanding hidden messages, if there really is a hidden message in your reply... :surprised
can you tell me something clearer?

Hey, it looks great! Don't worry about the ape thing--the proportions look alright and the pose brings the jaw forward a bit anyway. The only quibble I have is that the placement of the ear looks a bit off to me.

I wish you didn't have the text overlay across the bottom, but I'm biased against that sort of thing. Also, the number "82" floating in front of the character is a bit strange, but maybe that has something to do with the story?

thank you, and by the way, you're right, the ear is strange....
here is the picture before any compositing, it's straight out of lightwave... i found it a bit too computeristic, this is why i chose to do compositing... tell me which one do you prefer... and year, the 82 number has nothing to do with the story, it's just that my compositing kinda sucks.... :bounce: :bounce:

i forgot to say that there is no radiosity... just area and distant and point lights... most of the textures have just diffuse channel. the background is mix of procedural and volumetric light... :)

The backround is very nice in composited version. Character looks better when it's not composited, in composited version texture makes her look sick or something. Those little vein look like lines in her chin and neck. But noise and small amaunt of over exprosure are good, makes her look smoohter and more vivid.

thank you for your critics, i rewrote over the first image. hope you'll like it better... and you're right, it looked a bit weird... :D
thanks again....

I really like the clarity of the Lightwave render. Could you try putting the more painterly version in the background behind the image, rather than compositing over the whole thing? Either way, though, they both look cool.
Great work!

thank you for your critics but i'll leave the picture as it is... let's say that this picture is a finished piece and try to make another one with better compositing, having all the critics you made in mind. hmm.. this sentence is a bit long, hope it's a correct english sentence... :D
i have to do more pictures to learn more about compositing. i thank again for the time you took to critic my work.
