Eudaimic 04-25-2003, 07:57 PM Is it just me, or is it a problem to zoom in on objects properly using the perspective viewport as soon as you get in close?
Any workaround for that? (I don't want to use the user viewport).

It depends on the scale of the object, and/or clipping planes. A viewport can have clipping planes just like a camera does. Try right clicking the viewport menu should have some options. :)

The clipping plane is maxed out. But even so, I'm just as much annoyed by the way that the perspective moves along its local z-axis.
The steps are too big!

Maybe try the utility Rescale World Units? Make your scene larger...
Or maybe use a camera and adjust the clipping planes.
If you turn on clipping pane control (red line w/arrows along the right hand side of the viewport), you can actually pull the near pane back to zero. Why this isn't the default I really don't know.

The main problem really is the large steps the perspective 'camera' takes when you go back and forth on the small scales.

Just work in "user" instead of perspective. Try it.... zoom and rotate are constant speeds no matter how zoomed in you are.

Instead of using the zoom you can also use change FOV for the camera. It reacts much more smooth then zooming.
Try working at a larger scale if possible for the project. I always try to use 1 unit = 1 centimeter (or inch of you prefer). Then you'll never have any problems zooming or dissapearing geometry closeby.
Have we forgotten that CTRL increases the input and ALT decreases? Works on sliders and transforms too!

I hear ya on ctrl, but ALT? ALT + MMB is rotate.
