View Full Version : Character: EX-105 Robot
Johnny_Cannuck 04-25-2003, 07:31 PM I built this in MAYA 4.5 in about an hour, he's a quirky combat droid/ sidekick for a short faux movie trailer I'm directing for a school assignment. We have 3 weeks to get it all done from developing a concept to the final composite. We're doing a 30 sec action trailer with a futuristic Bladrunner meets Dick Tracy feel.
I'll keep posting new stuff everyday as it has to come together REALLY quickly. Let me know what you think of the style, modeling or anything else you see. I NEED FEEDBACK!!!

Here is a close in shot of the head.

details are the key, right now theres not a whole lot to crit yet, however a few things bugged me about the model. The body box looks out of place, for the most part the robot is slender and i would think the body would be the same style (long and stretched looking). The ends of the feet are really funky, i would change those dome looking things. looks like a great start for 1 hr, hope to see some continuing progress and best of luck for your project !

I dont agree with you cole i think the only real problem is the form of the body the modell itself is quite smooth and the body looks like a °,°umm box try to make it smoother Johnny Cannuck .
But u should add some details its very important to give ur modell character^.^ but keep on working

Johnny,
I like this model but don't see much character yet.
Is he confident? fearful? lonely?
As of construction, I like the head and top torso. It seems to me that it's hip leaning towards the knees is quite long, and from the knees towards the feet is a bit too short. Perhaps play with the length a little.
Also,
it would be quite interesting if it's shoulders were a little above the collar bone area, for more character. The construction around the elbows and knees is nice and relative. I don't like the end of the feet. The ball. Maybe it can look more interesting with they type of construction you chose to go with as per the elbows and knees where it looks 'connected'? Overall, for one week.. it's great and keep up the good work.
If your team chooses to do facial poses, how will they appear in the model? Keep in mind that character is everything. it's the animators job to reflect what you construct.
:D :D Good work!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it really helps to get an objective opinion! I should have a revised version posted on Monday but I may post WIP of other models that are being built for the same project as soon as I get updates from the other guys on the team. (They send their stuff to me 'cus I'm the "Director" - I love having minions... ;-)
