View Full Version : Mentalray suddenly stops rendering.... no more

Hi
I encountered a weird problem, this morning I did some final rendering of my scene with mentalray just fine (1820*720)
after two renders (1 hour each), I closed Maya and did some post-prod in Photoshop. After that, I took a little break outside then this afternoon when I re-opened maya to do another shot of my scene, mentalray won't render anymore...

The preview render is fine, render perfectly. But when I click Batch Render,
it goes "Rendering with mentalray..." and it just sit there... for more than an hour now, so I cancelled it.
Normally, it goes "Mentalray rendering process 5%...10%..." but now it just jammed!!

I tried restarting Maya and the computer, but mentalray still freezes. I can't even render the occlusion pass.. batch render won't do anything..
What's going on?
Why it mentalray won't render anymore, it worked perfectly just a few hours ago...

Please help, I must hand in the project in two days and so far, Im pretty screwed :P

hi ...

maybe your scene have some sort of element that need a cache, like particles, hair, cloth or something that need to be eavaluated dynamically? ...

please, tell us some more about the scene ...

my scene has no particles, hair, cloth, fuilds, dynamics... only geometries and a light.
rendering using FG.
What's strange is that within 2 hours, it stopped working when I didn't touch anything , the program itself was closed...

Have you already tried to render from the windows command line? This works under most circumstances.

really strange, although all of us know that Mental is strange by itself ...

try to put all the directory of your scene on another place of the hard disk, maybe more on the root of the HD, and try it again ...

another thing is to make a backup of your Maya preferences, delete and so start Maya, that should create the default ones ... you know where, on My Documents ...

strange thing, tribuanimal, your suggestion didn't work but it gave me the idea of creating a new empty project scene then importing everything from the original one.
Then I readujsted the render settings and now it works...I really don't get where was the problem but at least, it's still alive.
