View Full Version : Skin tones and Hair shader
Isamu7 04-25-2003, 07:01 PM Two part question: Does anyone know where I can get a list of skin tones for use in making textures in photoshop(aka the RGB values). Also which shader is best to use with skin?
As for hair, which shader is best for that as well?

As far as skin tones go, just grab a photo and use the EyeDropper / ColourPicker do-hickey.
Here are some tips that you may find useful:

As far as a skin shader goes, best bet is to take the time to paint several different maps. Leigh has got a pretty example of painting several maps somewhere on her site (http://leigh.cgcommunity.com/making_of_orc_head.htm). Or maybe you can get away with just a colour map cANt style (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56847).

thanks. I've done the eyedrop tool thing with a pic. Maybe I'm just being too hard on my choice of skin tones. *shrug*

Too hard on your skin choice? Just relax and don't be afraid to be a little sloppy. You just might surprise yourself.
Now, I've never done hair before. Figgered it's about time I give it a go. I started with a quick Brushed Aluminum technique as a base. Then I modified it as needed for various maps. Save 'em out, slap 'em on, and render. About 30 minutes worth of messing around.
