Hey fells,
Im stuck with my shark rig. I have encountered a problem with it. I'm using Maya.

Here's how I made it --------->

(1) created the spine of the shark
(2) created a spline IK over it.
(3) made clusters over the spine.
(4) positioned the pivots of the clusters to their appropriate joints.
(5) created new joints that I called control bones and snapped them to the cluster's pivots.
(6) parented the clusters to the ctrl bones via parent constrain.
(7) created control curves and parented the control bones to the
control curves.
(8) grouped each control to itself and then parent constrained the
group to the the main preceding control
(9) created a sine deformer for the spine curve and then adjusted the settings till it's correct.

The problem is that the back flippers dont move at all with the spine joints . So what's wrong here ? Is it because I have parented them to the neck joint ?

I have also a you tube link of the shark movement

Im pretty sure its a joint hierarchy issue but im not sure. If you post the scene file I can have a look at it.

Yeah i believe it is because of the fact that they are parented to the neck. Just try unparenting them and as long as they're parent constrained to the middle control curve it should work.

I dont think its a joint hierarchy issue because first of all the sine deformer is driving just the spine joints that are skinned and the spine curve. The clusters along the spine curve as well as the ctrl bones and the control curves are not moving at all .

I guess my setup is wrong coz the the controls are not moving at all along with the wavy motion of the sine deformer. Anybody has any ideas as to what new setup should I do so that the controls too move along with the deformer.

I'm also posting the file if you want to have a look at it.

hi

if back flipper movement is all you need ,then probabaly you could parent the flipper joints to one of the spine joints near it. yes ctrls wont move since you have connected only the curve.
Now if your shark is meant for a animation like the video , then you could directly apply the deformer to it instead.and just rig the flippers and head,
hope it helps
