View Full Version : Underwater tunnel
Ekarat 01-12-2008, 05:15 AM Hi
This is a matte painting of an underwater tunnel that I'm working on.
I started from 3d model using Strata3d to build the tunnel.

Here I start adding details and lightings but some of the glow will probably be remove when the live action plate of the actor swimming under the water is added.

C&C on how to improve and take it further on this image please.
Thank you.
Ekarat.

Really nice, I like it! :)
Two things I think the underwater version is missing are bubbles, and some random floating particles - but you might mean to add them later...
With the cave, the left side is bothering me, maybe you could replace the parts nearest to you with photos to make it more realistic.

I agree with the comment above about the bubbles and floating particles, also because of the light coming I guess some kind of caustics should be seen inside , I would paint more rust or a little green like in the general texture,

Thanks for the comment Yona-S, JamesVFX. I'll be adding more details like on the age old sunken ship to the wall and pipes etc. As for the floating stuffs and bubbles that will be on the live plate.
Will keep updating on this project thanks again guys!

this is for Dewey's Elements right? :D Cool, I'm the guy who's doing the next shot - the one after she exits this tunnel. Lol

Just the scene after she exits the tunnel and you see the prison and such.
A tip for continuity : make the tunnel brighter than the exterior (not as it is right now - the exit brighter than the interior) :D She's supposed to come out into a dark abyss

I told you to make the end of the tunnel dark :P

It has texture, but that's all. No sense of scale, depth, no mood, etc...
I liked the first versions better.
Anyway, here's a little color correction if you don't mind:
