Hey all
Im in final render stage of my interior project and I have a lot of geometry
Rendering with mentalray, I've been told many times to have good settings in the Raytracing>Acceleration> BSP section.
I searched about BSP, but nobody really explains how-to fine-tune those settings which, I heard, can help much on the rendertime.
Is there someone able to explain how to do that ?

Thx
ps: btw, how do I get all the detailed render infos? I have nothing in my output window after a render...

Having a lot of objects in your scene dont tell much about the real complexity of the scene.
For Example are you using instance objects or copies of the objects?
Thats makes a huge diference. Most people use to copy the same objects over the scene, and thats wrong, specially people who work with arch viz. An example is a table with some chairs, as its the same chair you dont need to create a lot of copies, you could create instances, and that will make a lot of diference when rendering the scene.
Im saying this because even with the new "not that new" 3delight render, that claims to render everything in one go, you need to know how to build your scene. In mental ray its not diferent.
But that was not your question, lol, well adjusting the BSP is very tricky, as it depends on how you build your scene, the copy and instance thing is a good example.
Here is a link where you will find some answers, but usually when rendering a scene with lots of objects that have been copied and even instanced, the LARGE BSP approach with the default values is a good way to go.But read this, and you will understand how the BSP mechanism works.

To have mental ray to display all the things going on during render, use Progress message .. or Detailed messages, F7---Render Current Frame --options.
To display that in a command line render use the verbose argument, example
render -r mr -v 5 myscene.mb
v-5 or v-6
