Can someone point me in the direction of some good 3DMax character building tutorials online please, somthing with faceial expresions, and character rigging.

Sure. look within the sub-thread of this forum(up top), there is a section for tutorials and tips.

Also, have a look in the modeling and rigging section of the main site for lots of info on these subjects.
