View Full Version : exporting/importing cluster deformers

I'm having a real problem with the exporting and importing of cluster weight maps.

My situation is this, i'm setting up rigs on characters, and at the same time these same characters are being textured (they are poly's) by someone else. I have found a way to very easily transfer my skeletal deformation maps (smooth skin weight maps) easily from my non textured character to the final textured character. But my problem is that I also have a considerable amount of cluster deformers doing various things to the character (in addition to the skeletal deformations). I've been killing myself trying to find a way to easily transfer my cluster deformation information from my non textured character to the final textured character (much like I've done with the smooth skin weight maps). The geometry doesn't change between the characters, so I can't really figure out why the export/import cluster weights tool (in the paint cluster weights tool) aren't working. I just don't want to have to create all those cluster deformations twice - once on the non textured version of the character, and once for the final textured version (which I'm going to have to do if I can't find a solution to this problem).

Has anyone has this issue pop up? and if so how are you fixing it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I sure hope i'm being clear enough for everyone to understand my situation.

Since the geometry is the same, a script could simply rename the points that are listed under the deformer sets no??

i haven't used this mel script myself but perhaps it will do the trick:

WeightTools v1.0 (http://highend3d.com/files/dl.3d?group=melscripts&file_loc=wireShape-v1.0-.mel&file_id=1197) written by Michael Bazhutkin [His Homepage (http://www.geocities.com/bazhutkin/weights1.html)]

Import / Export cluster or skin weights of polygonal or NURBS object into text file(s). It gives high accuracy and flexibility of options. Nice tools for character setup. Read the help on my website.hope that helps.
