I have a paint effects scene that im using modifiers on. The modifiers control the scale etc of the tubes and this all works fine when i convert the Paint Effects to polys, however i am also changing the colour of the paint effects as the modifiers pass over the tubes these do not seem to transfer to the Poly Paint effects shader after conversion. Can someone tell me how to make this connection to the shader after i have converted to polys. Thanks for any suggestions or help.

When you convert PFX to poly a new shader is created and applied to the polygons (select your poly and open the hypershade). I do not know if you can drive this shader from the brush but you can certainly animate the new shader.

Yah......I have worked with Paint effects alot. I need to know where the connection from the volume ramp (modifier) to the new shader is made and because it is simply a volumetric ramp the connection should be possible to the new shader. I appreciate the time it took you to respond but im looking for information on how to connect the new shader to the modifier not what happens when i convert to polys.

The modifier changes the pfx color, but the shader assigned to the pfx simply has textures constructed to resemble the brush settings. However the construction of the generated shader is just approximate, and doesn't take modifiers into consideration.

However you can enable color per vertex output on the stroke. Note that the base maya shaders do not recognized color per vertex, so you will need a shader that can( I think there is one in bonus tools ).

Thanks Duncan

I think i have found a work around for my simple shot but ill look into this because i will need to have accurate transfer for when i do this technique again. Thank you
