View Full Version : WFCam4D plugin > Mac UB C4D r.10.5 ?
acmepixel 01-11-2008, 04:14 PM Hello and Happy New year to all.
I am a bit behind on all things r.10+, and I need a fisheye lens distortion for a project.
I could do it in Photoshop as a post effect but I would rather have the feedback of a quick render in Cinema. I have Lightwave 9, for it's new distortion lenses, but I have not played with it yet and my scene is fully built in Cinema, where I prefer to stay. And now I have no time to experiment. The render is due this Tuesday. :scream:
The WFCam4D plugin looks great, but the site seems not to have been updated in a year. The manual/documentation link is still pending, for example. :hmm: I searched the forum and found that Rui used it with r.10.0, but that was back in July'07. (Rui's endorsement carries a lot of weight, BTW).
So my question is; Is the WFCam4D plugin compatible with Mac UB C4D r.10.5 ?, and is it still supported and in development ?
Thanks in advance for any info. :D

I sure hope so--otherwise Im either sticking to 10 or switching to a 3rd party renderer.
Using this plugin A LOT.
Its been great--the developers are top notch and were usually responsive and accommodating---- and it just WORKS.
WFCam is still working in R10.5. I haven't used it much in 10.5 yet but the basic functions all seem to work.

Hi guys.
I have just placed my order via PayPal on the plugin site.
I hope they work on Saturdays :D because it is after hours now in Portugal.
I sent an email to Marcos just in case. There are no download links anymore.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Have a good weekend. :)
edit
I guess they are not open on weekends, hopefully I'll get a response on Monday.

Hi all,
It's been quite a while since i've posted here. In any case, glad to know that WFCam4D is still being used!!
Well, it's been well over one year since i don't work with this team anymore, but this December i was there and they are very busy with a new tool and that's why they are a bit neglectful (cut them some slack, they are very very smal team).
In any case, i'll forward this to them.
Is there any change you guys could post some of the stuff you've been doing with this, rather curious to see it!
Cheers all.

Hi all,
sorry for all this time without any post! :)
Luis is right, we are in the middle of some hard work now, but WFCam is not discontinued!
We still support it, and don't plan to abandon it :)
But if you have any problem, it is better if you post on our forum,
http://forum.multimeios.pt/
it's easier for me to track all the problems from there!
Please report any problem, any question, or even any feature request!
Best Regards, and continue all the great work!

Update;
I received the plugin and key via email promptly on Monday morning.
There is no manual, at the moment, so I don't know what all the terms for the lenses mean, but it is easy enough to figure out just by doing a few test renders to see what each function can do.
I'm delighted to hear development will continue for this plugin. It really works well. And there's no competition in this price range. :applause:
My only request (besides a manual) would be for a center-of-effect repositioning function. Currently I can find no way to move the center of the fisheye effect up or down in the frame, much like a view-camera with a vertical lens bellows adjustment, without changing the camera perspective. In other words; moving the center of the effect vertically down on the film plane, to the lower half of the frame (in a portrait format, for example). This feature may even exist, but I have yet to find it.
This Plugin has lots of options, and I need to spend more time with it, but right away I could tell it was a winner.
Marco,
Thanks for the quick email responses. And the new forum link will be handy. I will check it out.

you can control direction of your camera in the zenith direction field.

Hi Joel. Yes, I toyed with that feature as well. Unfortunately, that changes the direction of the camera which is what I want to avoid. I need to change the center of the lens effect, within a locked down view.
To better illustrate what I mean, think of the Photoshop filter; Spherize. The center of the filter effect is always the center of the selection or image. It too, could use a center point control to make it a more useful filter. A Photoshop filter that DOES have a center point control is The zoom option of the Radial Blur filter, for example.
If the WFCam4d plugin were to work with the Film Plane Tools (Film Move, Film Zoom, etc.), that would help, I think.

Right now, the work-around, for me, is to set up the camera view then use the Film Zoom tool to back out of the view (retaining the desired perspective) and give the plugin more field to work in, offsetting the center-of-lens effect by manually moving the entire scene in front of the locked-down camera. Much the same way one would use the Spherize filter in Photoshop.
