This image was created for the cover of Wolfgang Baur's 'Kobold Quarterly #3' (www.koboldquarterly.com), a new mag that HOPES to pick up where 'Dungeon' and 'Dragon' left off. All crits welcomed. (PS7, tons of reference used...yadda yadda!)

Stunning colors and details. :D
As far as critiques, the hand and the sword's position seems uncomfortable. Perhaps you were trying to adhere to a set image proportion though. Also, the fire seems a bit 'cartoony', for lack of a better word, in comparison to the character. But fire is sooo dang hard!!!
Good work.

Woohoo! A comment! And a very thoughtful and valid one, at that. I struggled with that derned hand, for exactly the reason you mentioned. And fire IS hard! I like flaming things though...they add such drama. So I'll have to give rendering fire some real effort in the future. Thanks, muchly!

Just to let you know the image isn't coming up for me in the thread, works okay in your portfolio but can't get a larger image.
Apart from that, the face, hair and wings are very beautiful and striking, love the colours.
I'd also have to say that the flaming sword seems to take too much attention, especialy as there is something about the tilt of her head and posture that make her look stunning/confident enough to stand alone.

Yeah, other folks are having troubles with the images showing up, so I reckon it's something in CGTalk. We shall see! The flaming sword was a required component of the image, per the art director. But thank you very much for the kind words!

Hi Cris
The image is showing up fine for me and it certainly is a stunning one! I love the colours and her face is really good, lovely curly red hair! The wrist and hand holding the sword...... but you know that already. Isn't it annoying when you're pleased generally with a picture but one thing just doesn't go right no matter how hard you try? Anyhow, great pic.

The bright colors were a foolish challenge...I'm glad they kinda worked!
