g'day fellas

i'm rendering a fly-by animation where i need a spot of motion blur to up the realism. since there are no actual moving bits in the scene other than the camera i have to use Scene Motion Blur.

i only need a slight effect so i'm using it set to 25% strength at samples set to 5 times.

problem is i have about 50 shadow maps in the scene. i appreciate SMB blurs the whole lot, shadows and reflections in each pass, but this is crippling my render times.

i've optomised the anti-aliasing for speeds, but is there any way i can turn off the MB to the shadows and refs??? this is where it really slows down.
all i want is the scene blured really, not the shadows and reflections.

render with shadows and reflections turned off in the render settings, then render again with multipass (and no smb) with shadow and reflections as seperate channels in the multipass, then composite them in.

mdme_sadie - thats sounds promising.

so i'll end up with 2 sets of sequentially numbered image files - 1 set of the animation without shads and refs and the other set with just the alpha of the shadows and refs.

i have no external software, only c4d 8.1 how do i then comp these 2 sets together?

Maybe you could comp them in Cinema? Apply the movies as textures to a background object.
