Hey everyone!

Recently I reformatted my windows xp machine. After reinstalling photoshop I can no longer open files that I previously was able to work with fine before the reformat. After attempting to open the file photoshop gives me the error:

"Could not complete your request becuase there is not enough memory (RAM)"

I have 1.5 ghz of RAM, and even though this is low I know my machine can run the files I am trying to open because of the fact I ran them fine before reformatting, I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall a few times, allow more memory in the performance options and increase the amount of virtual memory available in my system, all with no success. I even was working on a new file, worked fine, saved up and went to open it the following day and I simply get the error mentioned above. Fairly small files, less than 10mb, by no means large. I can only be led to believe it had to have something to do with reformatting though I really can't imagine what it could be.

It's usually a general message that can be fixed with what I've tried but I haven't had the least bit of success which is really shocking to me. At first I thought maybe my machine isn't recognizing all my RAM due to a driver or something of the sort, but my machine itself is recognizing all my RAM fine.

Any help or suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciate, thanks!

What kind of filetype did you try to open?
We have a similar problem with 3rd party filetypes like MayaIFF, SGI, etc., where an additional file format plugin is required.

Which version of Photoshop are you using?
Are you sure you've installed the latest patches and updates, etc. ?

Are your cache / scratch disk settings correct?
Often if you exceed the set amount of RAM error messages like this may occure.

Are you using 32bit or 64bit?
even 64bit only allows a maximum of RAM up to 2.7GB, but is a huge improvement compared to 32bit in terms of stability.

Did you checked out the FAQ on adobe.com?

Hope that helped a bit.
Best Regards and good luck,

Dan
