Director 2D side scrolling help

This guy (Noisecrime) has some good examples/sources on his site: http://www.noisecrime.com . Check out the 'tiling profiler' on this page: http://www.noisecrime.com/develop/techdemo/d8.html I asked him for some optimization help with a tiling engine I built, and that's what he came up with. The first example is mine, the others are his tests and optimizations. I've since converted the engine to be object-based, with collision detection, animated tiles, etc. You can download the original files from him, that's a good start.
