Ok I'm kinda in a rush if you know what I mean and this is an idea I had in mind for a while. I think it will make a great submission to the Expose when I'm done. I'm going to add a grassy field some Shurmen tanks and town back drop..

2 questions:
should I make it like a bw old photo or make it color?

also if I wanted to make it look like BW photo how would I do it in max?

Nice model, I'd like to see it textured. I think it would look cool if it was a little beat up, and the final image showed it leaving the ruins of a city, and there could be an explosion in the background.

hehe great ideas you guys!

thx for the comments. lerpiedood I going to texture it real soon, it's just I got a lot of modeling still to do...

post another update later, lots of work yet :surprised

Render it out in full color, then create the B&W old style look with post-production filters in Photoshop.

Modeling is looking good by the way, better hurry though, Only a month and a half to get it done! :insane:

ow! and this one, If i mad an animation like this one it would realy be one heck of a cell shade, dose anybody know of a max render plugin that would do something like that?..

thats some pretty cool stuff, nice models,, ton of detail, you must have a pile of ram in that PC,, hmm.. Ive been meaning to render one of my cars with a white background, looks neat that way.

nice models, some weird mixture of panzer III or IV tanks (turret) with an tiger-looking tank (front hull)

curious about the result

Illustrate and Brazil have good toon shaders. Haven't really tried them that much on detailed meshes yet...

imo the tank needs alot more details (and different kind of details) the cloned objects just make it look too cg

Looks great, I can imagine the final scene: the panzers on a grassy hill firing on Shermans on the base of the hill. You should make it colour but very low quality as in the 50's. :)

Btw, how did you make the caterpiller tracks for your tanks? Do you have a tutorial for that? TIA

Hey, I just bought finalToon and finalRender stage-0 (waiting for stage-1 to release), finalToon will give you exactly what you want for Toon shader (man it has everything, including making things look like sketches, love this filter!).

hey thanks all the comments! :D

EighthDecay: sadly I don't have a pile of ram although I got 256 DDM so it goes kinda slow, by the way you got some great car designs on your site..I would actually buy one of those

Caman0: I love the panzer designs, especially the Tigers but I didn't have that good of reference and since I'm in a rush I was just trying to capture the overal feel. I going to add more detail today...

CaptCunning: Ah brazil toon shader, thanks fort the tip I'll look it up!

Cole: again I'll add more detail and will model more tanks..
in the top render I was just trying to capture the tank in kind of battle pose.. hehe

PvtRyan: ya the scene will look like you described..
I made the tracks the hard way, OUCH! ah what tutorial, could you give the url? thanks

tcomputerchip: ah final toon, (final render?) interesting, thanks

finalToon comes with finalRender, that's why I put both down...

wow, I can't make tanks like this. You should make me a tank, with a big ribbon on it. Max5 has a suuuper toon shader, but I don't believe it could accomplish a sketchy look. you should look into the finaltoon thingy, I've never seen it, but the person above seems pretty confident in it. Mannn, someone just got arrested on Judge Joe Brown, I bet you never saw that coming. Good job though, you should update soon now that i have seen it. I actually just wanted to come say thanks for leaving me lots of comments and stuff :D I like it, almost as much as i like sleeping. Okees, cool. I'll check back sometime, this is neat.

ok here's an update I don't want to spoil the realy good one I got before I finish it but here's how some of the buildings are going to look.. and I know that the texturing isn't perfect I'm still new to max right now. I'll post more later..

Tanks look really good.

I don't know if it's the angel or something, but the tank look way out of proportion to the buildings in the scene.

PvtRyan: ya the scene will look like you described..
I made the tracks the hard way, OUCH! ah what tutorial, could you give the url? thanks

I finally figured out:

1: make 1 segment of the track, make sure it can interlock with itself when copied. (so it fits nicely into eachother)

2: Copy with array about 50 times or so it looks like a fold-out caterpillar track. Make all those 50 into one object with attach list.

3: create a spline in the form you want your track to be, make sure it is a closed spline (very important)

4: add a *PathDeform (with the asteriks) to the track, choose the spline as the path to form the tracks. Mess around a bit with the options (not sure what to set)

And voila, an animatable caterpillar track
:bounce:

I don't have the url of the tutorial, but it's a simple process :)

^ newist max render..

D_Nice: him I'm going to work on the size a bit, but the panzers were big :D I just went overboard..

PvtRyan: thx man now I'll be able to animation out the scene and through it in my demo real...

I'm looking forward to seeing the tanks textured.
I know they were big, just not that big ;)

I usually take a simple human character and use it for proportions whenever I'm doing anything with buildings and realistic vehicles.
