View Full Version : Linking: Parent / Child question
Red_Riot 04-25-2003, 12:20 AM Question about linking:
If you select object A and link it to Object B
(drag selector from A to be)
does it:
Make A a CHILD of B?
-or-
Make A a PARENT of B?
In the case of an HI chain if you move a parent all of the children move, if you move a child, then all the 'sub children' under it will move, correct?

Make A a CHILD of B... I think... no, I am pretty sure.
In the case of an HI chain if you move a parent all of the children move, if you move a child, then all the 'sub children' under it will move, correct?
That's right! :scream:

The object you are linking to will be the Parent.
Link 'A' to 'B': 'B' is the Parent.

You know, oddly enough I find myself resorting to a pen and paper manually drawing out linking chains. Old tech is the best tech.
Another question:
Parents can have multiple children, but children can only have one parent?

Yes... but you can also link a child to another parent via Controllers. For example to inherit the position of a parent but rotate to always look at another object. Etc.
