View Full Version : volume hair render in .mi2 ?
Ahassan 04-24-2003, 11:21 PM Greetings !
Can anybody tell why I can't render volume hair from an .mi2 file?(with ray3.exe)From xsi it works well to geometry and volume type, but if i export to .mi2 and render from command prompt it does not appear. Only works well if it is set to geometry render.Thx in adv !

I think that it's so because Mental Ray 2 don't support fur render (I'm not sure, but I think it's so, tell me if I'm wrong) and so, when you save your scene in .mi2, the fur informations don't saved in .mi2 file and ray3.exe can't render its, because the fur doesn't exist in mi2 file.

Volume render of Hair is done by an XSI volumetric shader, while geometry hair is converted to MR hair primitives and rendered by MR directly.
So AFAIK when you export the file, the hair get exported only when in the form of hair primitives (which MR can render) not otherwise.
